Gas Scrubbers

Gas Scrubbers

Removes contaminants from gas flows by contact with spray water.
Gas Scrubbers

Gas scrubbers or scrubbers are mainly used in industrial processes to remove certain substances from air or gas. This involves absorption. The purpose of a gas scrubber is to neutralize one or more pollutants in an (industrial) air or exhaust stream. The operation is based on bringing the waste stream into contact with a liquid (scrubber liquid), usually water. The scrubber liquid absorbs a part of the (harmful) gas stream through absorption or chemical reaction.

What is a gas scrubber?

A gas scrubber captures unwanted substances and gases from the air and removes them. A gas scrubber is also known as a scrubber. The scrubber liquid used is usually water. This liquid absorbs a part of the harmful gas stream through absorption or through a chemical reaction. Substances such as alcohols and acetone are well soluble in water and are therefore particularly suitable for the technique of gas washing.

The purpose of a gas scrubber is to neutralize pollutants in an air or gas stream. Many industries face unwanted substances sooner or later. Sometimes these substances can even be harmful to health. That is why more and more companies operating in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, livestock farming, and waste incineration are using a gas washer. Gas scrubbers can remove the following substances:

A gas scrubber consists of three parts: an absorption section for mass transfer, a droplet separator, and a recirculation tank. The droplet separator removes harmful droplets from the air or gas stream. After the gas washing process, you are left with a cleaned air stream.

Environmentally friendly odor control and gas scrubbers

Gas scrubbers are suitable for many applications. The technology has been developed not only for gas cleaning and gas desulfurization but also for odor control. The gas scrubber can also be used in multiple sectors. Apply gas washing technology in surface treatment, the handling of chemicals, and in the primary aluminum industry. A gas washer can achieve substantial results in various situations, removing many substances from the air. Additionally, you will spend little time on the installation of your gas washer and maintenance does not require much effort. The efficiency and low pressure loss make the gas washer an environmentally friendly solution for any industry.

Different types of gas scrubbers

Although there are many specific types and applications for gas washers, they usually fall under two general categories:

  • Open spray scrubbers: these scrubbers are designed to spray the wash liquid directly into the process stream. Open scrubbers rely on the correct droplet size and process conditions to maximize the reaction or mass transfer rate. These are usually dependent on the surface of the droplets to volume ratio.
  • Packed spray scrubbers: these scrubbers work by spraying a wash liquid over packing material in a column, with an upward or horizontally flowing gas stream passing through the packing. The packing becomes saturated with the liquid and creates a film for gas/liquid interaction.
