Vacuum Distillation

The petroleum and chemical industries use vacuum distillation to separate individual components and compounds from bulk process streams. This process plays an essential role in separating hydrocarbon fractions without the use of high temperatures, which can damage the fractions and cause coke formation. Vacuum distillation lowers the boiling point of the nebulized liquid, thereby reducing the temperatures at which the more volatile elements evaporate and minimizing the necessary energy or heat input.
BET spray nozzles for vacuum distillation
Spray nozzles are frequently used to distribute the process liquids in vacuum distillation units. Well-misted sprays produced by these nozzles increase the surface area of the process liquid and thereby enhance the evaporation rate and separation efficiency. When packed columns are used in vacuum towers, where the pressure drop on the gas side must remain low, spray nozzles also ensure even wetting of the packing. This allows the gas to flow over the packing and come into contact with the liquid, further optimizing the separation process.
