Power generation

Spraybest supports companies in power generation with solutions for adiabatic cooling, gas scrubbing, and injection, aimed at more efficient, safer, and more reliable power generation with less unplanned downtime.

Power generation is a sector with unique challenges

Power generation is a sector where reliability, efficiency, and emission reduction must constantly be balanced against one another. Whether it concerns gas turbines, combined heat and power, or large-scale power plants, the output and lifespan of installations are strongly influenced by ambient conditions, flue gas quality, and the way chemical processes are controlled. Without the right technology, this can lead to loss of efficiency, higher maintenance costs, accelerated wear of installation components, or failure to meet emission standards.

Spraybest supports companies in power generation with solutions for adiabatic cooling, gas scrubbing, and injection. We think along with you about the right spray, misting, and separation technology for your installation. We work with renowned brands such as BETE, Munters, and RVT. These brands are well suited to applications where spray technology, mist elimination, and column technology play an important role in power generation. Whether it concerns a peaking plant that only runs a few hours a day or a continuously operating installation, we assess the process conditions, the available space, the desired flow rate, and the maintenance requirements together with you, so that the chosen solution truly fits your situation.

Adiabatic cooling for more efficient power generation

An important application within power generation is inlet cooling of gas turbines, also known as Turbine Inlet Air Cooling. Warm air is less dense than cold air, which means the capacity of a gas turbine can decrease significantly at high temperatures, in some cases by several tens of percent below nominal capacity. This often happens precisely at moments when demand for electricity is high, for example during hot summer days when air conditioning and cooling place extra strain on the electricity grid. By cooling the turbine's inlet air through evaporation, air density increases and the turbine can perform closer to its rated capacity again, without the need for heavy electric chillers.

BETE supplies air cooling misting nozzles specifically designed to produce very fine droplets at high pressure differentials. This is essential for adiabatic cooling: the droplets must fully evaporate before coming into contact with the turbine blades, to prevent damage, erosion, or unwanted deposits on the turbine. Our misting nozzles are suited to the most demanding conditions, including high ambient temperatures and varying humidity, offering an effective and economical alternative to electric chillers. Because the investment is relatively modest compared to the capacity gain achieved, adiabatic cooling can often pay for itself within a short time.

Gas scrubbing to limit emissions

The generation of energy, for example through combustion processes, produces gas streams that may contain contaminants such as dust particles, acidic components, or other unwanted substances. Gas scrubbers are used to remove these contaminants from the gas stream by bringing it into contact with a scrubbing liquid. A well-functioning gas scrubber contributes to lower emissions, more stable process operation, and less wear on installation components further down the process, which directly contributes to more reliable and safer operations.

The effectiveness of gas scrubbing depends heavily on the contact between gas and liquid: the better the scrubbing liquid is distributed, the larger the contact surface and the more efficiently contaminants can be captured. BETE supplies nozzles that distribute the scrubbing liquid evenly over the contact surface, which is essential for an efficient gas scrubber. In packed columns, for example, axial swirl nozzles ensure even distribution over the packing surface, so that no gas flows through the packing untreated. RVT supplies column internals that optimize flow, distribution, and mass transfer within these columns, contributing to a stable and predictable scrubbing process, even under varying installation load. Munters contributes with mist eliminators that effectively separate any liquid droplets from the cleaned gas stream, preventing liquid loss, corrosion, and contamination further down the process.

Injection for NOx reduction and process control

Combustion processes in power plants and large installations produce nitrogen oxides (NOx), which contribute to air pollution and smog formation. To limit these emissions, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) is often used. In these processes, an agent such as ammonia or urea is injected into the exhaust gas to react with the NOx components and convert them into harmless substances. The precision with which this agent is distributed largely determines how effective and efficient the NOx reduction is.

BETE supplies spray lances, injectors, and quills specifically designed for this type of chemical injection application. These custom-made solutions atomize and distribute the agent precisely within the process stream, maximizing the reaction surface and increasing the efficiency of NOx reduction. In addition, BETE's spray injectors ensure stable conditions within the installation, preventing excessively wet pipe walls and pipeline corrosion. This prevents costly repairs and unplanned downtime, and contributes to safe and efficient operation of installation components further down the process. Because each lance or injector is custom-designed, tailored to the specific dimensions, connections, and process conditions of your installation, the result is a solution that fits your situation precisely.
